What is Gallium Nitride?
GaN is not new to electronics. It’s been used in lasers and
photonics, like
Blu-Ray disc players and LEDS since the 1990s. It is a
transparent glass-like
material that is beginning to replace silicon semiconductors,
and can quickly
deliver the levels of power demanded by today’s electronic
devices.

How Does GaN Work?
GaN has a wider band gap than silicon. Band gap is a measure of how well a solid material can conduct electricity without losing power to heat. This means GaN chargers can handle higher voltages and higher temperatures. It also means that in a GaN charger, components can be placed closer together, resulting in smaller, more powerful and more power efficient chargers.
